Tecnai Arctica - Resolve macromolecular structures

Tecnai_arctica_main

Resolve 3D macromolecular structures quickly, efficiently and accurately

The next generation automated, high resolution imaging TEM platform – Tecnai Arctica provides a new option for structural biologists when customizing the FEI cryo electron microscopy workflow to fit their application.

This new platform delivers increased data throughput using a new sample holder that allows for automatic loading of 12 samples. This high data throughput coupled with superior optical performance and stability; researchers gain a dramatic reduction in time to data results and achieve lower costs per structure.

Accomplish a full range of automated applications with the new Tecnai Arctica including:

  • Single particle analysis
  • Cryo-electron tomography of frozen hydrated suspensions, cell organelles and cells
  • 2D electron crystallography

Tecnai Arctica Benefits

Increased data acquisition speed.  Acquisition speeds have been improved up to 3x for Tomography and up to 1.5 times for EPU application (SPA) compared to the prior platform.

Fully embedded in the FEI cryo-TEM workflow. Tecnai Arctica is seamlessly integrated with application software solutions and detector solutions

High data throughput. Robotic sample handling and automatic loading up to 12 samples

Unattended operation. Auto filling of N2 for continuous platform operation and automated data acquisition using powerful applications software

Excellent data quality. Optimized for 80-200 kV, equipped with C-Twin objective lens

Sample quality. Contamination free sample loading and auto filling of N2 results in increased sample life time (>24 hours)

Low cost of ownership. The new design enables remote diagnostics with reduced service costs as a result.

Atomic Model of Virus Reveals Mechanism Used to Economically Carry Out Conserved Functions

Cytoplasmic Virus

Unlike the multishelled viruses in the Reoviridae, cytoplasmic polyhedrosis virus (CPV) is single shelled, yet stable and fully capable of carrying out functions conserved within Reoviridae. In this article, which appears in Structure Magazine, it is revealed how CPV proteins have evolved in a coordinative manner to economically carry out their conserved functions.
