Our software has an immediate impact on our products and our customers. I find that gratifying.
I have another goal that’s just as important to me as growing my career. I want to enjoy going to work every day. So far I do. There’s enormous progress being made in nanotechnology and we’re working right at the forefront of those advances. We need to be agile and open-minded, because we’re developing products and capabilities that are completely new. It’s especially exciting to see how the software we write impacts what our imaging systems can do, and what our customers can see with the software we create. I’m proud of our work, and I always feel proud when I see our microscopes in magazines, in the news and on TV.
You can move ahead fast at FEI.
I got my Masters degree in Computer Science right here in Brno. My long-term goal was to become a group leader or software manager at an international company. Now I oversee a group of developers. I’ve worked hard to make that happen, but I don’t think there are many companies where I could have achieved my goals so quickly. FEI is growing around the world and our products and technologies are always evolving.
1998 Graduated with Masters Degree and Joined FEI as a Software Engineer |
2000 Became Group Manager of 4 Developers |
2006 Moved to (USA) to implement the multisite development environment |
If you want to see the world and learn different cultures, this is a great place to be.
There are great opportunities for software engineers at FEI. I’ve worked in three different countries in just 10 years, and I’ve helped develop processes that allow us to collaborate efficiently across multiple sites. There’s no doubt it’s been challenging. It’s also been fascinating and a lot of fun.
The job is challenging on multiple levels, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I moved back to Brno this year as a Software Program Manager. I manage several projects in parallel across all of our development sites, providing software solutions for more than 15 different products. Aside from the technical challenges, which are always new and interesting, my focus is on improving communication across all of our development sites, improving code reuse, and coordinating our efforts to fully utilize the strengths of each group and each individual.
