Career in Physics for Electron Microscopy

Push your knowledge of physics to the limit. As a physicist at FEI, you'll be collaborating with a team of scientists and engineers who are continually working at the frontiers of technology in order to see things no one has seen before.

Physics is at the heart of every system we develop, so you'll find a wide variety of opportunities, from fundamental and applied research to product and applications development. You may decide to specialize in a critical niche area so you can develop a deep understanding of a specific system, process or phenomenon. Or you might prefer to become a 'jack-of-all trades' who brings a broader range of knowledge to bear on our system designs.

The opportunities are many. You could be working with a diverse team of scientists and engineers to investigate the fundamental limits of microscopy through theoretical modeling and empirical observation, advancing our understanding of the interactions of charged particle beams with solid matter.  Or, you could design the next-generation electron optics column for 'Extreme High Resolution' imaging or 'Ultra Fast' milling applications, pushing the limits of detection and sample manipulation in our industry-leading beam based imaging systems.

No matter how you shape your role at FEI, you'll be putting your knowledge of physics to the test across multiple disciplines, including electromagnetic fields, high voltage design, magnetic shielding, vacuum analysis, material selection, mechanical design and many others. As the first link in a long chain of technologists, you'll play a fundamental role in helping our customers push high-resolution microscopy and nano-manipulation to new limits, so they can work more effectively at the Nanoscale.
