Hiring
new employees is one of the most important things we do at FEI. We are
committed to investing time and effort to get it right. The following
information can help you prepare too.
Applying for a Job at FEI
Use our online search engine to find one or more jobs of interest and complete an application. If you can’t find an appropriate job opening at this time, you can sign up for our job alert engine, which will automatically send you an email anytime a job in your chosen field becomes available.
What we’ll look for on your application:
- Education – Your degree(s) and grade point average (GPA) are very important to us.
- Publications – We’re a scientific company, so be sure to let us know about your published papers, patents, speaking engagements, etc.
- Work Experience – We want to know more
than just your basic job responsibilities. What were your key
accomplishments? How did you achieve them and what results did they
have for your employer, your colleagues and your career?
- Languages – We’re a global company and
we need to collaborate effectively across geographical and cultural
boundaries, not only with other FEI employees, but also with our
customers and vendors. If you have conversational skills (or better) in
more than one language, let us know.
- Achievements – Tell us about any other
career related successes you've had that demonstrate your business or
technical skills, leadership, initiative, or extraordinary commitment.
These successes could have been won through your work experience or
through academic or extracurricular projects you've participated in (as
in the case of new college graduates or internship applicants).
Based on your application, you may or may not
be invited for an interview. However, you will receive a confirmation
that your application has been received.
Preparing for your Interview
If you’re invited for an interview, you can be
sure we’re already impressed with your accomplishments, but we’ll want
to learn a lot more. In fact, we’ll spend quite a bit of time preparing
for your interview, so you should too. We’ll begin by meeting as a team
to review your application, clarify what we know, and identify what we
need to find out.
Our interview process is very structured, but
the format will depend on the specific job you’re applying for. You may
have a series of one-on one-interviews, a panel interview, or a
combination of both. We may also ask you to take a test or give a
presentation.
Regardless of the format, you should come
prepared to discuss your most important accomplishments in considerable
detail. What exactly was your role, and what knowledge, skills and
capabilities helped you be successful in it? What specific challenges
arose and what actions did you take to address them? This can be a
fairly demanding process. It’s also an important one that helps us
determine whether your experience and abilities are a good fit for FEI.
Come prepared with your own questions, as well. This is a great
opportunity to get inside information from people who might turn out to
be your future colleagues.
Following the interview, we’ll meet again as a
team to evaluate the results and determine next steps. The selection
process can take from 2 weeks to 6 months depending on the number of
applicants for the position. Whatever our decision, if you’ve
interviewed with us, we’ll follow up in one way or another to notify
you of the results.
