Dynamic Materials Experiments

Failure analysis labs typically feature dynamic testing devices such as stress/strain, heating/cooling and environmental testing machines. FEI's Quanta family of tools is uniquely equipped for dynamic experiments. They offer the perfect complement for laboratories using these techniques by performing all facets of dynamic experiments within the SEM.

Environmental scanning electron microscopes (ESEM) provide the ultimate environment for failure analysis studies at the nanometer-scale. The Quanta and Quanta 3D enable precise control over experiment parameters and the specimen chamber environment for reproducible results, and allow you to record movies (.avi files) of your in-chamber dynamic experiments for subsequent study.

Some examples of dynamic experiments using the Quanta family of tools include:

  • Performing humidity cycling storage tests for pharmaceutical research and development
  • Studying the crystallization and melting cycles in ceramics using high temperature cycling
  • Utilizing a tensile stage to conduct stress-strain tests for metallurgical evaluations

The Quanta family models enable real-time observation of material property changes, compositional analysis for materials characterization, and high-resolution images for documenting your results:
