QEMSCAN is used in a wide range of applications, including exploration, characterizing precious and trace phases, plant audits and process optimization. QEMSCAN provides rapid, accurate, precise and exhaustive chemical and mineralogical analysis of any material, and is adaptable to any materials of inorganic nature, which require characterization for process control. The oil and gas, forensics and environmental waste industries are already profiting from our knowledge and technical capabilities.
The data generated is extensive, but made easy to understand by mineral maps, data mining and image viewing software. To bring all this data to life, the iExplorer [patent pending] software toolset is nothing short of a revolution for the minerals processing industry. iExplorer is categorically the most powerful materials analysis software available in the world today.
The QEMSCAN Story
QEMSCAN, now world renowned within the mining industry, began in the late 1970s. Then CSIRO’s Dr Alan F Reid invented the QEM*SEM technology - using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and x-rays to analyze and identify materials.
By 1985, CSIRO's systems were being sold commercially. In the 1990s, scientists improved the robustness of the QEM*SEM technological platform, running the system within a Windows-based PC environment. This innovation created the first QEMSCAN system
Intellection was launched by CSIRO (Australia) in October 2003, after 20 years of comprehensive and rigorous scientific research and discovery, to better market, develop and support its unique mineral and material analysis technology, called QEM*SEM® (Quantitative Evaluation of Materials by Scanning Electron Microscopy).
On January 5, 2009, FEI announced the purchase of selected assets from Intellection Pty Ltd., including all QEMSCAN software and intellectual property. FEI has contracted selected technical personnel from Intellection, and has opened a facility in Brisbane, Australia.
The Intellection asset purchase is the result of FEI's determination to further develop automated mineralogy technology and continuously increase the value it delivers to natural resource companies, service providers and research institutes.
